Hi

I plan to take the exam this novemeber.
Information about this exam can be found on http://www.garp.com/frmexam/

This exam is globally recognized and is quite useful for individuals wanting to take up careers in risk management and Investment banking.

Is there anyone who is planning to take up the exam this november?

Thanks

sunny

FRM is an examination conducted by GARP which is an association of risk professionals . Its conducted once a yr in the month of Nov, and supposed to be pretty tough with pass percentage ~ 30. Unlike CFA it has no or very little accounting portions. Mostly related to market risk management.

As far as I know, since FRM entails lot of risk management stuff, it is more closer to the trading front office systems and trading jobs.. I cant comment on the salary which an FRM degree will command as i have no idea abt it....

frm does not have levels...its a one shot exam. thats what makes it s tough...

Difference between CFA and FRM :

Actually many people fall into the trap of comparing FRM and CFA but I don?t think that there is much case for comparison since both the courses are markedly very different from each other. While the CFA focus in Level 1 is all the basics of financial analysis, basics of derivatives, ethics and economics, the Level 2 focuses mainly on financial derivatives and advanced financial statement analysis. Level 3 is more of portfolio management and a good part of derivatives?.all in all the focus is on financial analysis and fund management as far as CFA is concerned.

On the other hand, a look at the FRM curriculum states that areas such as operational risk management, financial risk management, credit risk management, legal risk management- all in all management of all kinds of RISK is the priority of FRM. So if you have done L2 of CFA, it might help you in a limited area of study ? eg derivatives and all but other than that, I don?t see CFA really helping a person who wants a dedicated career in risk management. For that FRM becomes the God!

i think d need of FRM has increased many folds due to the recession of us economy and the world economies as well ... investors are going for hedge funds rather than conventional equities or mutual funds ....

so risk management becomes an imp part in dis volatile market ....
