Music room - tell us what you listen too
« on: November 05, 2011, 07:12 AM »
When you're reading a particular book, or genre' - what type of music do you listen too? If it's something you love - up it here

There are quite a few books that I read where I'll listen to Loreena Mckennitt, two of them being Gabriel's Inferno by Sylvain Reynard and The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley (too little coffee to go searching through my library for other titles) - and it's hard for me to pick some of my favorites since I love all of her music
but here are a few

She Moved through the Fair
Incantation
Tango to Evora

it gives you an idea of the feel of her music..

I would also be interested to hear what other people who listen to her music read?

If you up your music - post the link!! - Inquiring minds and all.
"Do not disturb. Already there."
"When fighting clowns, always go for the juggler."
"I stopped fighting my inner demons - we're on the same side now"
"Where am I going, and what am I doing in this hand basket?"

I'm not very good at listening to music while reading (when I read, I tend to block out everything around me), but at the moment this is my absolute favourite song to listen to
Zaz - Je Veux   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWbdcNmGYJU&feature=related (it's got English subtitles :D )

Other than that, I have to admit I tend to stick with music that's 'been with me' for years and years, so another favourite is  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1E3yFIqkj4  (Tony Hadley's voice gives me goosebumps -of the good kind- every time I hear this song, I don't think I can ever grow tired of hearing that song) and l also enjoy listening to Chris Ledoux, Garth Brooks, The Dixie Chicks, Depeche Mode, an old Dutch ska band called Doe Maar ( one of my favourite songs being http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZKE2B0R9Ws ) and a lot of 80s / 90s glam, punk and hardrock.

I love classical music, it's so soothing. Putting classical music on and lighting some candles is how I always relax. Do you have any favorites?

Yes, actually I'm a pianist so I have truck loads of recommendations! I like Schubert and Bach. Do you like Chopin?

Oh, cool! I could never play an instrument..ever. I have the attention span of a gnat haha. I like to start a lot of things but hardly ever finish them. Anyways I love Chopin, my favorite pieces are probably Nocturne op.9 no.2 and Fantasie Impromptu op. 66. I also like to listen to Mendelssohn.

ooooooh op 9 no 2 is my favorite nocturne too! do you like his Scherzos? and oh, I forgot, do you listen to Liszt? I like Mendelssohn too. Especially his Opus 30 works!
