Music room - tell us what you listen too
« on: November 05, 2011, 07:12 AM »
When you're reading a particular book, or genre' - what type of music do you listen too? If it's something you love - up it here

There are quite a few books that I read where I'll listen to Loreena Mckennitt, two of them being Gabriel's Inferno by Sylvain Reynard and The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley (too little coffee to go searching through my library for other titles) - and it's hard for me to pick some of my favorites since I love all of her music
but here are a few

She Moved through the Fair
Incantation
Tango to Evora

it gives you an idea of the feel of her music..

I would also be interested to hear what other people who listen to her music read?

If you up your music - post the link!! - Inquiring minds and all.
"Do not disturb. Already there."
"When fighting clowns, always go for the juggler."
"I stopped fighting my inner demons - we're on the same side now"
"Where am I going, and what am I doing in this hand basket?"

I am not a big fan of music....yes, i am human and yes, i do listen to music there just isn't a lot that I actually like. Long story short, I cannot listen to music while reading (I usually have a movie on in the background), but I think it would be interesting to know what type of music others listen to when reading. Sometimes a particular part in a book (or a character, or book itself) will remind me of a song though....
Happy Birthday, Grey!! I hereby declare you the official, unchallenged master of everything that is, ever was, and ever will be... At least for today :)

This sounded cool so I'll post mine:
Depending what genre book I'm reading, my tastes can go from Rascal Flatts to Red (Pieces being my favorite one from them..really good song)

Anyways, with the book that I'm reading right now (Christine Warren-The Demon You Know) I'm listening to more rock than anything. Nine Inch Nails-Deep, Red-Feed The Machine, etc.

I also listened to Incantation and I felt this song was very powerful and Celtic driven. I could probably see this in Game of Thrones or even the Hunger Games.

Here are the links to the songs I'm currently listening to:
Red-Waisting Time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XmBRoLsiZY&feature=related
Red-Pieces: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WgbeGnZGnU&feature=related
Red- Feed The Machine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4y3xPe6iVU
Nine Inch Nails-Deep: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEJOZITGpmI
Paramore-Decode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvnkAtWcKYg

(listen at your own risk :)))

I've always liked RED. "Already Over", "Ordinary World", and "Feed the Machine" are some of my favorites.
Always been a fan of Paramore, too. Before this stupid Twilight hype. Sort of sad about Josh and Zach leaving, though. I liked Josh.

Some of my favorite bands:

Chevelle
Tool
Disturbed
30 Seconds to Mars
Trapt
Nirvana
Linkin Park
Dead by Sunrise (Lead singer- Chester Bennington of Linkin Park)
Fort Minor (w/ Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park)
Aerosmith
Seether
Muse
Korn
Coldplay

& much more than this box can contain. But that's just a taste.  :P

When I was younger, and CDs were the "in" thing, I listened to certain artists over and over and over again [of course]. At the same time, I was into certain books. It's to the point where if I read the book, the music plays in my head, and if I listen to the music, I remember the books.

Alanis Morisette's Jagged Little Pill  =  Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia Wrede
Juliana Hatfield  =  Anne McCaffrey's Pern series

Now that I'm older and mp3s are abundant, I don't tend to associate certain artists with certain books because I have playlists instead. Here are just three songs that I've really been into lately:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfZMucMNugM   Buzz Chamber by Synthetic Adrenaline Music (SAM)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0ioL6PQK0I      Babylon by Funker Vogt
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bt27OqdevAo     Far From Human by Alien Vampire feat. Suicide Commando
...I doubt anyone else would touch this music with a ten-foot pole, but I like it. Industrial/Electro, Aggro-Tech, EBM, PowerNoize...yum!  ;D    (although, if anyone listens to this and *does* like it, feel free to ask me for other bands!)

I actually saw Red in concert recently and they were awesome! I loved Ordinary World they did a fantastic job with it, and I don't like many covers. Yeah, I am sad that Zach and Josh left but I guess they were having major issues. I'm really curious as to how Paramore will work out now without them. Great bands in your list. Still Frame by Trapt is one of my favorites. 30 STM is really good, I'm listening to Kings and Queens right now haha, and Linkin Park is great, I have all of their albums. I like Coldplay but not so much their recent stuff, Paradise is good but it's not really them. But I think they're still a great band.

I can't focus if I have distractions around me when reading, so I need quietness (no music, tv, or other people).

But I did discover only one album can keep me focused no matter what is going on around me. Brand New's Deja Entendu.  Hahaha, no clue why that one album can keep my attention, but it works. If I have it blasting in my ears, I can read or study no matter where I am or what's going on around me.  :)

Has anyone heard Hollywood Undead's newest song? Levitate..I think. I just heard it on the radio and I love it. Also how about You Me At Six? Their new song Bite My Tongue features Oliver Sykes from Bring Me The Horizon....I think it's a great collab.

I mostly listen to classical music when reading because it helps me to focus. It's like my own portal that transports me to the book setting itself.

I love classical music, it's so soothing. Putting classical music on and lighting some candles is how I always relax. Do you have any favorites?
