Review: The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa
« on: September 09, 2011, 07:49 PM »
Title:    The Iron Knight
Author:Julie Kagawa
Genre: YA
Rating: 2

Review:
First of all, I wouldn't recommend reading this one as a standalone; without reading the 3 previous books in the series (Iron King, Iron Daughter, Iron Queen) this one falls really flat. The first book starts off kind of slow (the curse of having to set up the characters) but picks up and the second and third books have very nice pacing. That said, the author kind of admits that the third book was supposed to be the last, and only wrote this one because fans didn't like the ending. As a result, the ending is predictable and cheesy (but hey it's what fans wanted, right?), and unfortunately it seems unlike the other books the author started from the end and wrote backwards because of that so the plot fails/pales compared to the previous books. Bottom line, for fans of the series, just read the last chapter, the rest of it isn't as good as the previous books, and for everybody else, skip it.

Yeah...I was soo into Ash until this book. It kind of killed "my Ash" and replaced with meh just Ash.

I really liked your recommendation for fans to read the last chapter and everyone else to skip it ;)  I agree, I have completely blocked this book out of my mind.

Thank you for the review. I have been looking for a review ever since I saw it on new releases in Goodreads. I changed my mind though. I have other books to read.

I don't know if I'll thank you or not because I just recently read the series and now I'm prioritizing it over work  I just finished the Iron Daughter last night and now starting the Iron Queen and I'm so disappointed that the fourth book will not be as good as the others *sigh  but thank you for that review now I know what to expect  :)

I'm kind of sad everyone who read it agrees with me, I was really excited to get it and afterwards it was just a meh.

Princess, I read the first 3 books in 1 6 hour sitting so I know how you feel  ;D Hope you feel reading the 4th was worth it.

Secret, I don't even have that interest in reading the fourth book now, after reading this though a part of me still wants to read it at least I should know what's in that fourth book ... sigh

How strongly do you feel about Ash and the Iron Fey in general? That might help decide. Personally I wish I stayed away from the 4th book, though I doubt I would have listened to anyone.

Just got the ebook, and I'm deciding I'm going to read it anyway, just to have some closure on this series. ;) Hahaha. ;D But thanks, everyone for your honest opinions. Cheers! :)

Well, fortunately not everyone agrees with you  ;)
I loved the last one just as much as the others.
I loved the banter between Grimalkin and the Wolf and the humor of Grimalkin and Puck made me laugh all the time.
And I liked the voice of Ash and was glad to learn that he isn't as cold as he seems.
